Posted Thursday, August 20 2015 at 01:00KAMULI- They may be conversant with the Seventh Commandment “Thou shalt not kill” but a section of born-again Christians in Kamuli fell short in observing the command.
They lynched a man accused of stealing about 20 plastic chairs from the Lufulandizi Pentecostal Church in Buzibirira Trading Centre.
Twaha Kagoda, who had been nicknamed ‘Sniper’ because of allegedly being a habitual thief, is said to have first attended an evening service at the church before reportedly making off with the chairs.
Trouble began when he was found in the trading centre trying to sell the chairs to a local businessman at Shs100,000 on Thursday.
He is said to have fled into a nearby thicket, but angry Christians followed him there and apprehended him before battering him to death.
“We got him with his loot, but he decided to leave it and took off to a nearby thicket but God was on our side and got him,” a member of the Church who preferred not to be named told Daily Monitor.
Kamuli District police commander, Ms Doreen Ninsiima, warned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
She urged the public to always involve the police in tracking of suspected criminals instead of meting out their own form of justice.
