Posted Monday, November 3 2014 at 02:00KAMPALA: President Museveni has said he is endlessly praying for His Holiness Pope Francis to visit Uganda ahead of the 50th canonisation of the Uganda Martyrs.
The President also called upon Ugandans to join him in prayer and disputed media reports that the Pope had already confirmed his visits to Uganda.
“….. the detailed programme of his African visit is not yet made or concluded…[I asked him] that Uganda may be included and His Holiness asked me to pray for him so that he visits Uganda. I am going to start praying about it...,” President Museveni said in a press statement.
Without mentioning details, Mr Museveni said, he wrote a letter on August 26, inviting the Pope to visit Uganda in 2015 for the canonisation as a follow up of earlier communications on the same matter.
He during last week’s visit to the Pope, he interacted with Cardinal Paralin, the Secretary of State, who highlighted that two Popes have visited Uganda (in 1969 and 1993) before but he (President) insisted that Uganda as the land of the Martyrs be given special consideration.
Uganda on June 3 celebrates, Martyrs Day hosting visitors from as far as Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi, DR Congo, Malawi, Nigeria, , and Cameroon among other countries.
