The thirteen suspects accused of alleged murder, cannibalism and disappearance of the 21-year-old Peace Alinaitwe and her nine-months-old baby will appear in Rakai Magistrates Court Wednesday.

The suspects were 14 but on March 28, 2014, one of the suspects Erias Musujja committed suicide in a cell at Masaka Police station.

Taban Khiliga, the District Criminal Investigations Officer, confirmed the arrangement saying they have collected enough evidence linking all the suspects to the brutal crime.

He told New Vision that they are producing all the 13 suspects before the Grade One Magistrate Susan Awidi of Kalisizo who is currently covering-up Carol Kintu, the Rakai Grade One magistrate who is sick and absent at the time.

The group expected to appear in court include; Asaf Tumuhimbise, his wife Jovelet Nuwagaba, John Bosco Ssegirinya and his son Alex Ssebalala and one Nabukenya in connection with the alleged murder and cannibalism.

Others are Elimelda Nalubega, Mike Kabiito, Ronald Ssebuufu, Aloysius Kasujja, Mpoza Peregirino, Alex Ssemyalo plus two more others Ramka Kaweesi (60) and Ismail Ssekyanzi who were arrested over on Sunday.

All these suspects are charged CRB-RKI/494/14. Police detectives insist that whoever was involved in the alleged cannibalism will not escape the long arm of the law.

Khiliga further said the file went to the state for perusal and are to appear in court anytime today. He said that investigations are still going on until they reach the peak of the case.

It is said that Peace Alinaitwe and her husband Deus Bandihihi of Kankamba village in Kabongo parish-Kisekka Sub-county in Lwengo District had gone for a burial in Rakai and could not travel back at nightfall.

Ssegirinya, Tumuhimbise and Ssebalala offered to house them for a night but they suddenly hacked Alinaitwe and the baby and chopped them into small pieces as Bandihihi watched helplessly.

Bandihihi miraculously escaped from the killers’ house and disappeared in the dark until morning when he reported the matter to police.

New Vision has also learnt from some detectives in this case who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity that they are also looking for very prominent and respected figures in the district that are allegedly linked to his case of cannibalism.
