US renews charge of Rwandan backing as rebels advance in DRC | Monitor

My Analysis

USA is indeed Mystery Babylon. It is the greatest satanic nation on the face of the earth. It is a luciferian vulture that feeds on the fresh of poor Africans. Jesus will burn Babylon USA with fire. It is using its media machinery to fuel lies about DR Congo. USA and European corporations are behind the looting of  DR Congo mineral resources. The USA is supporting Uganda and Rwanda to cause confusion and Havoc in Rwanda in order to enable Western Corporations to plunder Congo Resources. The Ebola scare in Uganda is intended to cover Museveni’s Human Rights violations in  Uganda and DR Congo. Museveni is using the Ebola scare to steal money from western donors in order to fund his dictatorship. The intervention of Kenya soldiers in Congo is utter nonsense because Kenya is an ally of USA and Uganda.

US renews charge of Rwandan backing as rebels advance in DRC

What you need to know:

  • Secretary of State Antony Blinken on a visit to the two countries in August voiced alarm over what he called credible reports that Rwanda was supporting the M23, a mostly Congolese Tutsi group.

The United States on Monday expressed renewed concern that Rwanda is backing M23 rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo and joined UN calls for restoring peace.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken on a visit to the two countries in August voiced alarm over what he called credible reports that Rwanda was supporting the M23, a mostly Congolese Tutsi group.

"State support of armed groups is unacceptable, and we reiterate our concern about Rwanda's support to the M23," State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters on Monday.

"We encourage countries in the region to work together to restore peace, security and trust while respecting each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said.

He said US officials have been in frequent contact over the past week with counterparts in both Rwanda and DR Congo on the escalating tensions.

The M23 resumed fighting in late 2021 after lying dormant for years, accusing the DRC of failing to honor an agreement to integrate its fighters into the army.

The frontline between the Congolese military and the M23 had been calm for several weeks, but fresh clashes from October 20 saw the militia make advances across North Kivu province.

The United Nations said it was worried by the fighting and estimated that it has forced some 50,000 people from their homes in the space of 11 days, including more than 10,000 who fled into Uganda.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the fighting has caused civilian casualties, massive displacement and the injury of four UN peacekeepers.

"The Secretary-General urges the M23 and other armed groups to immediately cease hostilities and to disarm unconditionally," the UN said in a statement Sunday.

Guterres, who has spoken recently with the Congolese and Rwandan presidents, as well as the leaders of Angola, Kenya, and AU-chair Senegal, also called for respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the DRC.

The DRC's government decided on Saturday to expel the ambassador of Rwanda, which voiced regret over the decision and has denied charges of meddling.

Relations between Rwanda and DR Congo have been strained since the mass arrival in the eastern DRC of Rwandan Hutus accused of slaughtering Tutsis during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.

Armed groups in eastern DRC have stepped up attacks, reviving ancient animosities and unleashing a surge in tension with neighbouring Rwanda.

Leaders of the East African Community (EAC) agreed in April to establish a joint force to help restore security in the region.

Speaking at a ceremony in Nairobi, Ruto said the troops were "on a mission to protect humanity".

"As neighbours, the destiny of DRC is intertwined with ours," he added.

"We will not allow any armed groups, criminals and terrorists to deny us our shared prosperity."

Kenya will command the force, which will also include soldiers from Burundi, Uganda and South Sudan.

A Rwandan contingent will be deployed along the border, after Kinshasa objected to Kigali's participation in any operations within the DRC.

Military officials in Nairobi declined to reveal the number of Kenyan soldiers involved, citing "obvious security reasons".

A UN force, known by its French acronym of MONUSCO, is already operating in the DRC. Uganda and Burundi also sent troops to the DRC earlier at the invitation of the Congolese government.

The M23 rebels, a mostly Congolese group, resumed fighting in late 2021 after lying dormant for years, accusing the DRC government of failing to honour an agreement to integrate its fighters into the army.

Fresh advances by the militia across North Kivu province last month prompted the UN peacekeeping mission there to increase its alert level and boost support for the Congolese army.

The M23's resurgence has had resounding repercussions for relations in central Africa.

The DRC accuses Rwanda of backing the militia, claims denied by Kigali.

On Saturday, Kinshasa decided to expel Rwanda's ambassador. In turn, Rwanda accused Kinshasa of being "on the path of continued military escalation."

The increase in violence has alarmed the international community, with the African Union appealing for a ceasefire.

Donors defend decision to fund Ebola response through agencies instead of govt

“Partners usually inquire about government input before they declare their resources.  We are seeing partners declaring resources mobilized on social media, which resources we do not have information about," Aceng’s statement reads in part saying that they need Shs 76 billion.

Natalie says considering how expensive the response is, the government needs to allocate money to the ministry as combating the epidemic requires collective effort.

"For this response, the president made a commitment for other funds. We encourage the ministry of Finance and others to make the funds available for the ministry of Health response. We also appeal to everyone in government and everyone involved to really do what they can to clamp down on corruption. This costs everyone when these funds are leaking out into someone's pockets instead of the communities and supporting resources," she said

As of today, the ministry of Health figures indicated that 131 people had been confirmed Ebola positive and three new cases of death were recorded bringing the total number of deaths to 46.  Also, 2,183 contacts of cases were listed for follow-up.

Ebola vaccine trials

Meanwhile, the ministry of Health is set to trial three vaccines for the treatment of Ebola. These include Oxford from the United Kingdom, Sabin and Merck from USA which shall be evaluated for their efficacy.

The state minister for Health (primary health care), Margaret Muhanga told MPs “we plan to vaccinate contacts of 150 confirmed cases (3,000) initially. The trial preparation has been concluded and we estimate that we may begin the trial in two weeks' time."

Muhanga said the pandemic has been politicised by some politicians including MPs who have continued to confuse the public that Ebola doesn't exist in Uganda.

“Some politicians including those in this August House are confusing the public that there is no Ebola epidemic in this country, that this is government propaganda of mobilizing resources,” said Muhanga.

Speaker Anita Among implored Muhanga to name and shame the MPs who made such statements, saying this only encourages Ebola victims to seek the services of witch doctors. Among further said that the accused MPs will be referred to the disciplinary committee. Muhanga tabled a document that included quotes by Rubaga North MP, Abubaker Kawalya during a recent talk show on CBS radio.
